What is the Core Supports Budget?
The Core Supports budget is designed to help you manage everyday activities, meet your current disability-related needs, and work toward your personal goals. It’s the most flexible part of your NDIS funding, allowing you to use your budget across several categories. However, some restrictions may apply, particularly for transport funding.
Core Supports Categories
Your Core Supports budget is divided into four main categories. Each category helps you maintain independence and participate in community life:
In Your Plan | In the myplace Portal | Description |
---|---|---|
Assistance with Daily Life | Daily Activities | Support for everyday tasks like household cleaning, yard maintenance, or personal care. |
Consumables | Consumables | Everyday items you may need, such as continence products or low-cost assistive technology and equipment to improve mobility and independence. |
Assistance with Social & Community Participation | Social, community and civic participation | A support worker can help you participate in social and community activities. |
Transport | Transport | Support for travel to work or other activities that help you achieve your goals. Transport funding may vary per person, and your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can explain your options. |
Flexibility in Your Core Supports Budget
One of the key benefits of the Core Supports budget is flexibility. Depending on your plan, you can redirect your funding from one area to another to suit your changing needs.

Case Study: Mary’s Story
Mary’s goals include becoming more independent and making friends. She initially uses her Core Supports budget to get assistance with dressing and cooking. Over time, she gains confidence and reduces the morning support she requires. Mary decides to use her extra funding to join a weekly group recreational swimming activity.
This example highlights how flexible funding can be used to support both daily life and personal goals.
How to Use Your Core Supports Budget Effectively
Plan ahead: Discuss your priorities with your LAC or support coordinator.
Track your spending: Use the myplace portal to manage and monitor your budget.
Adjust as you grow: Flexible funding allows you to reallocate support to areas that align with your evolving goals.
