Understanding Your NDIS Capacity Building Supports Budget
At Complete Money Management, we believe understanding your NDIS plan is the first step toward making the most of your funding. One of the most important parts of your plan is the Capacity Building Supports budget.
This budget is designed to help you build skills, independence, and confidence so you can achieve your goals. Unlike your Core Supports budget, Capacity Building funds cannot be moved between categories. Funding can only be spent on approved supports within the specific category it’s allocated to.
The 9 Capacity Building Categories in Your NDIS Plan
Below is a breakdown of each Capacity Building category, as listed in your plan and the myplace portal:
In Your Plan | In myplace Portal | What It Covers |
---|---|---|
Support Coordination | Support Coordination | A fixed amount for a Support Coordinator to help you understand and use your plan effectively. |
Improved Living Arrangements | CB Home Living | Support to help you find and maintain a suitable place to live. |
Increased Social & Community Participation | CB Social Community and Civic Participation | Development and training to improve your skills for community, social, and recreational activities. |
Finding & Keeping a Job | CB Employment | Employment-related support, training, and assessments to help you secure and maintain work. This includes school leaver employment supports. |
Improved Relationships | CB Relationships | Assistance to develop positive behaviours and improve your ability to interact with others. |
Improved Health & Wellbeing | CB Health and Wellbeing | Advice on exercise or diet to manage the impact of your disability. Note: The NDIS does not fund gym memberships. |
Improved Learning | CB Lifelong Learning | Support for transitioning from school to further education, such as university or TAFE. |
Improved Life Choices | CB Choice and Control | Plan management services to help you manage your funding and pay providers. |
Improved Daily Living | CB Daily Activity | Assessment, training, or therapy to build skills, independence, and community participation. Can be delivered individually or in groups. |
Why Capacity Building Supports Matter
Capacity Building Supports are about long-term growth, not just meeting day-to-day needs. They help you:
Gain new skills

Make informed choices about your life
By understanding these categories, you’ll be better equipped to use your NDIS plan strategically.
